Gaming Lounge Coffee

28.9.04

A growing number of operators of gaming and poker machine areas are installing automatic coffee machines for the convenience of their patrons. The machines provide a cost-effective way of providing a good quality beverage to their patrons without taking up excessive staff time in maintenance. When a patron enters the gaming area, they are entitled to enjoy complimentary coffee while they are in the area along with other complimentary beverages that they may choose.

The thing with coffee is to be able to provide the beverage in a cost-effective way without tying up staff time. By using a Gilkatho automatic coffee machine, the patron operates in a self- serve way by placing the cup under the nozzle, pressing a single button, and this produces the drink. The automatic coffee machine uses all dry coffee ingredients, that is, instant powder, dried milk, and hot chocolate powders along with plumbed water to make it a low maintenance option. Additionally, the programming of the machine means that the venue can accurately control the actual cost of each drink thereby providing a cost control mechanism.

The service is further enhanced by a preventative maintenance program that we operate to ensure that the equipment is serviced on a regular basis. Any apparent issues that may be wearing are replaced prior to failure. This includes water filters which are replaced every six months. At the time of the preventative maintenance, Gilkatho carries out a stock-take to determine the amount of stock that is required for the upcoming period.

Ground Coffee Not Cool

7.9.04

While the British are the biggest consumers of instant coffee in Europe, driven by the desire for speed and convenience, many of the new instant coffee products launched over the last year were not destined for the UK at all but for Germany, where ground coffee is king. Germany is still Europe’s biggest market for ground coffee, with some 62 per cent of consumers there drinking nothing but ground, according to research by Mintel. In contrast, just 3 per cent of British adults regularly drink ground coffee, while 44 per cent will opt for instant. What’s prompted manufacturers to target Europe’s staunchest ground coffee consumers with instant products? The answer lies in the current decline in the German coffee market. Between 1998 and 2003, coffee sales dropped 39 per cent from €4.2 billion to €2.6 billion. Coffee manufacturers have been forced to reinvent their products to appeal to a new generation seeking beverages that are healthier and offer a real point of difference with old products. Unfortunately, in Europe, ground coffee is being labelled as ‘uncool.’
