The World of Coffee

25.10.07

NIEDERBUCHSITEN SWITZ. 25 OCT:  Wow, what a wonderful morning we experienced at the relatively new "Jura - World of Coffee" Interactive Exhibition.  The journey takes you through an oversized coffee machine fabrication to starting with a time tunnel of coffee machine development leading to a reflective display of 9th century coffee discovery.

The display continues the caffeinated journey with the European explorers first enjoying coffee.  We stepped into the 17th & 18th century and experienced the first coffee shops of Venice.  Some time was spent at a coffee trader's desk understanding the origins, trades and roasting.  The exhibition concludes with a short feature film "In Heaven - The Coffee Lovers" which brings together the world of coffee from Tokyo, Africa, Italy and of course Italy.

The inevitable souvenir store was well patronised by me.  Numerous purchases included coffee body butter, caffeine napkins and of course...some coffee from Jura's demonstration roasting plant.

If you are passing by Niederbuchsiten, can I suggest stoping by No 1 Kaffeeweltstrasse and spending a few hours immersed in the coffee's heaven.

Heading to Switzerland

24.10.07

Today we leave trendy Milan and head to Olten in Switzerland. We plan
to stop off at Lake Como for some sightseeing on the way.

Pancakes at the push of a button

23.10.07

Many of the products that we see at the show are "me too" products which have very little innovation and simply compete on price and service. We came to the other side of the world to discover this Australian invention "Fully Automatic Pancake Maker".

The unit uses a permixed fat-free pancake powder, internal cooking conveyor and excellent design to produce three different pancake size options.

Designed by Marek Szymanski they already have units installed at Taronga Zoo plus a growing prospect list of interested clients.

Great works of coffee art

MILANO 20 OCTOBER: Coffee branding in Italy is a mixture of lifestyle, style and more style. The Urbano family began roasting coffee in Sicily in 1946 and were displaying their coffee and style at Milano.

Miscela D'Oros striking Milano presence is powered by the larger than life photogtaphs of coffee beans, pods and coffee grounds like never before. With art direction by Oliverio Toscani the stand come alive to constructions of people, plants, places and pazazz.

Country Manager for the company, Eliana Ferrara explained that the company has opened their first outlet in Japan. Plans are well advanced to open more stores in Tokyo.

Transits and travels

20.10.07

Flight from Singapore to Milano was on one of Singapore Airlines
wonderful Boeing aircraft with the enhanced entertainment system. A
widescreen in-seat screen, more movies & TV shows than can be watched
in the 13 hours of flight.

The aircraft arrived early. That was handy as I was able to make the
Malpensa express inot town, find the hotel and make the breakfast. I
enjoyed my first Italian pastries which I was able to justify as I had
the real breakfast on the flight at 2am.

The day is now dragging on as the reality of 2 hours of sleep in the
past 31 hours starts to kick in.

Milan trip takes off

19.10.07

35,000 FT  INDONESIA:  The 2007 Milano Speciality Coffee trip has now been underway for 5.5 hours.  The Singapore Airlines flight from Brisbane left precisely on schedule.  In flight hospitality has been the usual high level that I've come to expect of them.

Inflight coffee has been consistent.  They use a Japanese filter coffee to produce the expected economy class results.

The aircraft will land in Singapore in about 60 minutes, a 3 hour transit then board the flight to Milan.

Woo hoo.
